Samsung error codes
Samsung washing machines, dishwashers, tumble dryers and fridges show a short code on the display. Newer models use a C where older ones used an E (4C instead of 4E), and very old washers used E1 to E9. They are the same faults, and every version works in the search. Samsung air conditioners and EHS heat pumps use three-digit codes such as E101 instead.

Washing machines 15 codes
4E Not filling with water
The washer couldn't take in enough water in the time it allows.
5E Not draining
Water isn't leaving the drum in the time the washer allows.
UE Unbalanced load
The drum couldn't spread the laundry evenly enough to spin safely, so the washer stopped itself.
dE Door not closed or not locking
The washer can't confirm the door is shut and locked, so it won't start or carry on.
Sud Too much foam
The washer found too many suds and paused to deal with them.
3E Motor problem
The washer has found a problem with the drive motor, so the drum can't turn properly.
1E Water level sensor
The sensor that measures how much water is in the drum isn't reading properly.
4C2 Hot water reaching the cold inlet
The water coming in is hotter than it should be, usually because the hoses are on the wrong taps.
HE Heating or water temperature problem
HE1 (6E, E5 or E6 on older models) means the heater isn't working.
LE Water level dropping or a leak
The water level fell when it shouldn't have.
OE Too much water
The washer found more water in the drum than there should be, and stopped to avoid a flood.
tE Temperature sensor fault
The sensor that reads the water temperature isn't giving sensible readings.
UC Power supply or voltage problem
The washer is getting power that's too high, too low or unsteady.
AE Circuit boards can't communicate
The main control board has lost contact with another board: the display board or, on AC6 and AE6, the motor's inverter board.
bE2 A button is stuck
The washer thinks a button is being held down.
Dishwashers 9 codes
4C Not filling with water
Little or no water is coming into the dishwasher, so it stops with a dry tub.
5C Not draining
The dishwasher tried to drain, but the water level didn't drop.
LC Leak sensor has found water
The dishwasher's leak sensor has found water.
OC Too much water
There's more water in the dishwasher than there should be.
HC Too hot inside
The dishwasher has measured a temperature that's too high, so it stopped.
tE Temperature sensor fault
The dishwasher can't read the temperature inside it properly.
bE A button is stuck
The control panel thinks a button is being held down.
3C Wash pump problem
The dishwasher fills with water, but the wash never starts and nothing sprays.
1E Blocked filter or low water level
Usually a filter problem.
Tumble dryers 9 codes
CLg Vent blocked (Vent Blockage test)
These are results of Samsung's Vent Blockage test: the duct can't carry the exhaust away properly.
HC Dryer overheating
The dryer is getting too hot, so it has stopped.
9C1 Power supply problem
Samsung US says something is abnormal with the voltage reaching the dryer.
tC Temperature sensor problem
There's a problem with the temperature inside the dryer, or with a sensor that measures it.
dC Door open or door switch fault
The dryer thinks the door is open, or has a problem with the latch or the sensor that detects it.
bE A button is stuck
A button on the control panel is being read as stuck or held down.
AC Circuit boards can't communicate
Parts of the dryer's electronics have lost contact with each other.
5C Water tank full or not draining
The dryer can't get rid of the water it has collected from your laundry.
FIL tEr Heat exchanger needs cleaning
It's a reminder, not a fault: the heat exchanger needs cleaning.
Fridges & freezers 9 codes
22E Fridge fan not turning
The fan that moves cold air round the fridge section isn't working properly.
21E Freezer fan not turning
The fridge can't sense the freezer fan turning when it should be.
OF OF Demo mode: display on, no cooling
The fridge is in Cooling Off mode, also called Demo or Shop mode.
88 88 Power supply problem
The fridge has picked up a problem with its electricity supply, such as a power cut, a surge or a drop in voltage.
PC ER Parts of the fridge can't communicate
There's a communication error between parts of the fridge's electronics.
5E Defrost sensor fault
Samsung lists 5E as a fridge defrost sensor error.
39E Ice maker not working
Samsung lists 39E and 39C as an ice maker function error: the ice maker isn't working as it should.
33E Ice pipe heater fault
Samsung lists 33E as an ice pipe heater error.
84C Compressor locked
Samsung lists 84C as a compressor lock.
Air conditioners 7 codes
CF Filter cleaning reminder
The air conditioner is reminding you to clean the air filters.
dF Defrost running, not a fault
In heating mode the outdoor unit is melting frost off its coil.
E101 Indoor and outdoor units not communicating
The indoor unit has lost contact with the outdoor unit.
E121 Room temperature sensor fault
The sensor that reads the room temperature in the indoor unit is not working properly.
E154 Indoor fan not turning
The fan inside the indoor unit is not rotating as it should, so the unit has stopped to protect itself.
E458 Outdoor unit fan error
The fan in the outdoor unit is not spinning at the right speed.
E554 Low refrigerant or gas leak detected
The system has detected that it may be short of refrigerant, which usually means a leak.
Heat pumps 5 codes
E202 Communication lost with the outdoor unit
The indoor side of the heat pump (control kit or hydro unit) has not heard from the outdoor unit for 3 minutes, so the system has stopped.
E911 Water flow too low
The water pump is running, but not enough water is flowing through the heat pump, so it has stopped to protect itself.
E912 Water flow detected with the pump off
The flow sensor is reporting normal water flow even though the heat pump's own pump should be off.
E919 Hot water disinfection cycle not completed
The scheduled disinfection (anti-legionella) cycle did not get the hot water tank hot enough, or could not hold that temperature for long enough.
E904 Hot water tank sensor fault
The temperature sensor in the hot water (DHW) tank is reading as a short or open circuit, so the heat pump cannot tell how hot the tank is.

Good to know
- The same code can mean different things on a washer, a dishwasher and a dryer. 5C is a drain problem on all three, but bE is a motor fault on some older washers and a stuck button on dishwashers and dryers. Check you're on the page for your appliance.
- A few codes mean different things on different Samsung models, usually US or Australian machines compared with European ones. Where that happens, the page says so rather than guessing.
- Air conditioners and heat pumps: Samsung's support pages say to write down the code shown on the indoor unit and give it to the service centre or engineer.
- Air conditioners and heat pumps: For temporary faults Samsung's service pages suggest a power reset: switch off at the breaker (or unplug the unit), wait about a minute, then switch back on. If the same code keeps coming back, Samsung says to have an engineer inspect it rather than resetting it again and again.
