What it means
Samsung's control kit manual says E911 shows when flow stays low for 30 seconds while the pump starts, or for 15 seconds once running. It treats flow as too low below 7 litres a minute on outdoor units up to 9 kW, or 12 litres a minute above 9 kW. The older AE090JXYDEH service manual uses 16 litres a minute.
What to check, in order
- Read the pressure gauge
Samsung's Installer Reference Guide says the water pressure should be above 1 bar. Note the reading so you can tell your installer.
- Ask before you top up
If the pressure is low, ask your installer to repressurise the system, or top it up yourself only if they have shown you how.
- Reset after a long power cut
Samsung's guide says that after a long time without power, scale can stick the pump and E911 may show. The pump needs a power reset: switch off at the isolator, wait a minute, switch back on.
- Listen for gurgling
Gurgling or rushing water sounds can mean there is air in the system. Mention it to your installer, who can purge it.
When to call your installer
If the pressure is right and E911 comes back, call your installer (MCS-certified in the UK). Samsung's service manuals have the engineer check that the flow sensor or flow switch is connected to the main board (PBA), check that the water pump runs, and replace the flow sensor, pump or board if needed. Samsung's installer guide also says a pump left without power for a long time can be stuck with scale.
Good to know
- Samsung's Installer Reference Guide also lists a separate error for a flow switch fault detected six times, marked 'Re-Operation is not possible'.
Quick answers
What does the Samsung E911 error code mean?
The water pump is running, but not enough water is flowing through the heat pump, so it has stopped to protect itself.
Can I fix Samsung E911 myself?
Moderate (about 15 minutes to check). Start with: read the pressure gauge; ask before you top up; reset after a long power cut.
Is Samsung E911 worth repairing?
Worth fixing. It can be a water-side problem, such as low pressure or a pump stuck after a long power cut, or a faulty flow sensor, pump or board. Your installer can find which.
