Check these first, whatever the brand
- Switch off and restart
Switch off at the wall for a few minutes and run a new programme. A one-off glitch clears this way.
- Check the socket
Plug the machine straight into a wall socket, not an extension lead, and check the socket works with something else.
- Run a hot programme
Run a 60°C cotton wash with nothing in it. Put your hand on the door glass after 20 minutes: if it's still cold, the water isn't heating.
- If the power trips
If the electrics trip when the machine starts to heat, stop using it. A heating element that trips the power usually has an earth fault.
When it's time for an engineer
If it still doesn't heat, the heating element, its temperature sensor or the wiring needs testing with a meter. That's a job for an engineer, or a confident DIYer.
