What to check, in order
- Clean the lint filter
Samsung says before or after every load. Don't run the dryer without it, or with a damaged one.
- Clean the exhaust vent
Turn off the gas if it's a gas dryer, and unplug it. Take off the outside vent cover, undo the clamp on the duct behind the dryer, then brush and vacuum the lint out of the duct. Samsung recommends a professional vent cleaning service.
- Check the duct itself
It shouldn't be plastic or foil, kinked or squashed. Every 90° bend cuts the maximum length your manual allows by 6 feet (1.8 m). Replace a damaged duct.
- Run the test again
Drum empty, door closed. Press Power, then within 5 seconds press and hold Adjust Time Up and Dry Level (or Cycle 1 and Wrinkle Prevent, or Air Fluff and Wrinkle Prevent) until In or InS appears. Press and hold Start/Pause. It takes about 2 minutes, and 0 or End means the duct is clear.
When to call an engineer
Samsung recommends a professional vent cleaning service. If the test is clear and the dryer still has no heat, request Samsung service.
Good to know
- Other test results: Ct means the dryer is too cold (below freezing) or above 104°F (40°C) to run the test. C1 or CL1 means there's laundry in the drum, and dC means the door is open.
- Samsung says to clean the exhaust vent once or twice a year even when nothing seems wrong.
