Can you do it yourself?

Easy

About 10 minutes

Before you start

  • Switch it off at the isolator next to the outdoor unit before you clear leaves or snow.
  • Watch for broken glass in the filter or pump.

What it means

On two-digit displays it shows as E4 then 58. Samsung's Korean service pages treat E475 / C475 (the second fan on units with two outdoor fans) the same way. On Samsung EHS heat pumps, the control kit manual lists E458 as 'OUTDOOR UNIT fan1 error' and E475 as 'fan2 error', so the same checks apply.

What to check, in order

  1. Switch it off first

Turn the system off at its breaker or isolator before you go near the outdoor unit.

  2. Clear snow and debris

Samsung's service page says to remove snow from the outdoor unit and look for debris. Only clear what you can reach from outside without opening any panels.

  3. Switch back on once

Wait about a minute, then switch back on and run the unit.

  4. Don't keep resetting

If the same code keeps coming back, Samsung says it is better to have an engineer inspect the unit than to reset it repeatedly.

When to call an engineer

Call an engineer if E458 returns after a reset and the fan is clear. They will check the outdoor fan and its wiring.
