Can you do it yourself?

Engineer only

Engineer visit

Before you start

  • Unplug it before you touch anything inside.

What it means

Shown as E1 then 54 (or C1 then 54) on two-digit displays. Samsung's Gulf page says 'The Fan is not rotating'. Its Korean service page adds that on units with several indoor fans E155 and E176 cover the middle and lower fan motors.

What to check, in order

  1. Reset the power once

Samsung's service pages suggest unplugging the indoor unit for about 10 seconds, or switching it off at the breaker, then turning it back on.

  2. Don't open the unit

Don't push anything into the air outlet or take the casing off. Write the code down for the engineer.

When to call an engineer

If the code comes back, contact Samsung or an air conditioning engineer. Samsung's Malaysia page names a defective fan motor or capacitor, and its Smart Install guide has the engineer check the motor's connection to the board and remove anything blocking the blower wheel.

A repair visit will usually check the fan motor, its wiring and anything blocking the blades.

Before you book
  • Note the model and serial number. They're on a label on the side of the indoor unit, and on the outdoor unit.
  • Write down the exact code, and what the appliance was doing when it appeared.
  • Check whether it's still under warranty. If it is, the repair may cost you nothing.
