Can you do it yourself?

Easy

About 5 minutes to try

Before you start

  • Unplug it before you touch anything inside.

What it means

On two-digit displays it shows as E1 then 01 in turn, and some models show C101. Samsung's service manual and Smart Install guide list E102 / C102 with the same meaning. On Samsung EHS heat pumps, the control kit manual lists E101 as a 'CONTROL KIT / OUTDOOR UNIT wire connection error', which is the same link between the indoor side and the outdoor unit.

What to check, in order

  1. Reset the power once

Samsung's service pages say this error can be temporary. Switch the air conditioner off at its breaker (or unplug it), wait about a minute, then switch it back on.

  2. Check the outdoor unit has power

On multi-split systems Samsung says to check that the outdoor unit's power cord is connected and its breaker has not tripped.

  3. Write the code down

Note the code and whether it appeared after a power cut, so you can pass it on to the engineer.

When to call an engineer

If the code comes back after a reset, book an engineer. Samsung says the communication wiring or a circuit board may be faulty, and its Smart Install guide has the installer check the cable connections between the units and that the power and communication cables are not swapped.
