What to check, in order
- Note the code
Write down exactly what the display shows. Samsung India says to do this first.
- Reset the power
Unplug the fridge for 30 seconds. When it's plugged back in, it runs a self-diagnostic check.
- Smart fridge? Run a self check
In the SmartThings app, choose About Devices, then Self Check, then Start Now, and follow what the report recommends.
When to call an engineer
If 5E comes back after the reset. Samsung India says a code that reappears means service is required, and Samsung US says to request service for 5E.
A repair visit will usually check the defrost heater, its sensor and the control board that runs the defrost.
- Note the model and serial number. They're on a label inside the fridge, usually on a side wall, or on the back.
- Write down the exact code, and what the appliance was doing when it appeared.
- Check whether it's still under warranty. If it is, the repair may cost you nothing.
