- Spread the load out
Open the door and redistribute the washing by hand, or add or remove a few items.
- Don't spin one heavy item alone
A bath mat or a pair of jeans on its own is hard to balance. Add a couple of towels and spin again.
- Don't overload it
A packed drum can't move freely. Stay within the programme's maximum load.
- Level the machine
It should stand on a solid floor and not rock when you press on a corner. Adjust the feet and lock them in place.
- Rule out a drain problem
Most machines won't spin with water still in the drum. If there's water left, see washing machine not draining.
When it's time for an engineer
Only if it keeps happening with normal, mixed loads on a level machine. Then the shock absorbers, the suspension springs or the drum bearings may be worn.

Why won't my washing machine spin?
Most often the load is unbalanced, the drum is overloaded, or there's still water in it because it isn't draining. Less often the motor, the shock absorbers or the door lock has a fault.
Is an unbalanced load code a fault?
No. The machine is protecting itself from shaking or walking across the floor. Rebalance the load and spin again.
