What to check, in order
- Close it properly
Open the door, check no clothing is caught in the seal, and close it firmly.
- Reset the washer
Turn it off and unplug it (or switch off the breaker). Press and hold START/PAUSE for 5 seconds, then plug it back in.
When to call an engineer
If it keeps happening after the reset, the door lock needs replacing. It's a common, fairly cheap part.
Good to know
- Front-loaders: dE1 means the door isn't closed properly, often because laundry is caught in the seal. dE2 means it's closed but not locked: open and close it, then do the reset.
- SideKick pedestal washer: dE1 means the drawer isn't closed. dE2 means it's closed but not locked: turn the washer off, pull the drawer open, turn the washer back on and close the drawer firmly. dE3 means the lid isn't latched.
- Mini washer: dE3 or dO means the inner cover is open, and dE4 means the drawer closed but didn't lock.
