What to check, in order
- Open the taps fully
Both hot and cold, turned all the way anticlockwise.
- Straighten the hoses
Check the inlet hoses aren't kinked, and that hot and cold go to the right taps.
- Clean the inlet filters
Turn the taps off, unscrew the hoses from the back of the washer and clean the mesh filters with an old toothbrush.
- Check the end of the drain hose
If it sits in water, the washer can siphon water out as fast as it fills.
- Frozen?
Wrap a hot towel round a frozen tap for about 5 minutes, and thaw a frozen hose in water no hotter than 50°C (122°F).
When to call an engineer
If it keeps happening with good water pressure, the inlet valve may have failed, so book a repair.
