What to check, in order
- Clear the lock area
Top-loaders: take away any object or clothing near the lid lock.
- Close the door firmly
Front-loaders: open it, check nothing is sticking out, and close it firmly. Try a smaller load.
- Unplug for 5 minutes
Then restart.
When to call an engineer
If it continues, schedule service. The lock may need replacing.
