Motor speed can't be read

The washer can't sense the motor or basket speed. On front-loaders, Whirlpool also says to check the washer isn't overloaded.

  • Unplug it before you touch anything inside.

What to check, in order

  1. New washer? Check the shipping bolts

    Front-loaders: all four shipping bolts and their spacers must be removed.

  2. Unplug for 5 minutes

    Then try again with a normal-sized load.

When to call an engineer

If it continues, schedule service.

A repair visit will usually check the motor, its speed sensor and the electronics that drive it.

Before you book
  • Note the model and serial number. They're on a label inside the door, around the door frame or on the back.
  • Write down the exact code, and what the appliance was doing when it appeared.
  • Check whether it's still under warranty. If it is, the repair may cost you nothing.
