  • Unplug it before you touch anything inside.

What it means

Daikin's US service manual calls it a fan motor (DC motor) or related abnormality. It is flagged when the fan stays below half its maximum speed, or does not turn for more than 5 seconds after starting.

What to check, in order

  1. Switch off at the breaker

Turn the unit off and switch off the air conditioner's own circuit breaker for 20 minutes, as Daikin's troubleshooting page describes.

  2. Look for anything in the air outlet

With the power off, check the air outlet for anything that could stop the fan turning. Don't take the casing apart.

  3. Restart with the remote

Switch the breaker back on and restart. If the operation lamp flashes again, book an engineer.

When to call an engineer

Daikin's service manual lists a large drop in supply voltage, a broken or shorted fan motor winding, broken motor lead wires and a faulty indoor control board. An engineer checks the connector and whether the fan turns freely, then replaces the motor or the board.

A repair visit will usually check the fan motor, its wiring and anything blocking the blades.

Before you book
  • Note the model and serial number. They're on a label on the side of the indoor unit, and on the outdoor unit.
  • Write down the exact code, and what the appliance was doing when it appeared.
  • Check whether it's still under warranty. If it is, the repair may cost you nothing.
