What to check, in order
- Check the house has water
Run a tap in the kitchen or bathroom. If nothing comes out, the supply to the whole house is off, not just the dishwasher.
- Open the supply valve
In the cabinet under the sink, find the valve that feeds the dishwasher and turn it anticlockwise to open it. Check the shut-off valve above it is open too. An installer may have closed the supply valve to stop leaks while fitting the dishwasher.
- Check the inlet hose
It shouldn't be kinked, pinched, bent or torn. Straighten it, or replace it if it's damaged.
- Thaw a frozen hose
In winter, soak a towel in warm water and wrap it round the frozen part of the hose.
- Check the pressure and the drain hose
LG needs a water pressure of 20 to 120 psi (about 1.4 to 8.3 bar), so call a plumber if yours is low. The end of the drain hose must be more than 10 in (about 25 cm) above the bottom of the dishwasher, or water can siphon out of the tub.
When to call an engineer
If it was just installed, call the installer. Otherwise, if IE stays with the water on, LG says it needs a repair. A clogged filter in the inlet valve is one of the causes LG lists.
Good to know
- Don't confuse IE with E1. On LG dishwashers, E1 is a leak code, the same as AE.
- LG warns that flood-safe hoses and check valves can interrupt the water supply, because of the high water pressure passing through the inlet valve.

Only if the checks above point to a part. Match it to your model number first: it's on a label on the edge of the door or the side of the tub.
