What to check, in order
- Reset the power
Unplug the fridge from the wall, wait about 5 minutes and plug it back in. Then check whether the code has cleared.
- If it comes back, call LG
LG says that if the code persists, stop using the fridge and contact its support team for service.
When to call an engineer
If Er rS comes back after a reset. LG says not to take the fridge apart or replace internal parts yourself: doing so risks fire, electric shock or serious injury.
A repair visit will usually check the sensor's reading with a meter, then its wiring.
Before you book
- Note the model and serial number. They're on a label inside the fridge, usually on a side wall, or on the back.
- Write down the exact code, and what the appliance was doing when it appeared.
- Check whether it's still under warranty. If it is, the repair may cost you nothing.
Good to know
- Some LG models have a second fridge sensor lower down (R2), which shows as r2.
