LG Er gF error code

Water flow sensor fault

The water flow sensor isn't working properly. LG says it can be caused by a closed water tap, a kinked hose or the wrong water pressure.

Also shown as E gF gF

Worth repairing?

Usually free

It's usually the water supply rather than the fridge, which costs nothing to put right.

Can you do it yourself?

Easy

About 20 minutes

Before you start

  • Unplug it before you touch anything inside.
  • Turn the tap off before you undo any hose or filter.

What to check, in order

  1. Restart it

Unplug the fridge, wait 60 seconds and plug it back in, straight into a wall socket rather than a power strip or multi-socket adaptor. It can take up to 5 minutes to restart fully.

  2. Open the water supply

Make sure the tap feeding the fridge is fully open and water is flowing through the hose.

  3. Check the hose

It shouldn't be kinked anywhere between the fridge and the supply.

  4. Check the water pressure

LG US asks for a cold water supply at 20 to 120 psi (138 to 827 kPa). As a check, an 8 oz cup should fill from the dispenser in 3.5 to 8 seconds; longer points to low pressure.

When to call an engineer

If the tap, hose and pressure are all fine and the code stays. LG says to contact its customer support.

Good to know

  • LG US suggests changing the water filter every 3 to 6 months. If water is slow, it also suggests taking the filter out and trying again to see whether the flow improves.

Parts people end up buying

Only if the checks above point to a part. Match it to your model number first: it's on a label inside the fridge, usually on a side wall, or on the back.
