What to check, in order
- Clean the pump filter
Unplug it. If it stopped during a hot wash, let the water cool first. Drain the water into a tray, then clean the filter and turn the pump blade with a pencil to check it moves freely.
- Check the hose
No kinks, no more than 10 cm into the drain, and the drain 60 to 100 cm above the base of the machine.
- Check the sink trap
Or put the drain hose into a sink for one wash to rule out your plumbing.
- Remove the foam
Scoop it out of the drum. Too much detergent makes foam that can block the water level system.
- Let the pump cool
Switch the power off for 1 to 2 hours so the pump's thermal cut-out can reset.
- Run a hot wash
Without detergent, to clear the residue.
When to call an engineer
If it still won't drain.
