Leak, foam or unbalanced load warning

A general warning. The most common causes are a water leak, too much foam or an unbalanced load, so it doesn't always mean a leak. EF3 specifically means a leak was found and the machine is in safety mode.

Before you start

  • Unplug it before you touch anything inside.
  • Turn the tap off before you undo any hose or filter.
  • Heavy: get someone to help you tilt it.

What to check, in order

  1. Deal with the foam

    If there's lots of foam, switch off and leave it a few hours to settle. Use less detergent next time and clean the detergent drawer.

  2. Drain the base tray

    Disconnect the water and power, tilt the machine back so the front is 10 to 15 cm off the floor for 30 to 40 seconds, and let any water run out onto a towel laid behind the machine.

  3. Check the usual leak points

    Refit the fluff filter hand-tight, and check the inlet hose and the door seal.

  4. Rebalance the load

    If the load is lopsided, spread it out.

Good to know

  • Once the cause is fixed, the warning clears by itself at the end of the programme or when you restart.
