What to check, in order
- Move it and restart
Put Roomba somewhere new and press CLEAN (the single button on j series).
- Wipe the cliff sensors
Turn Roomba over and wipe the cliff sensors with a clean, dry microfibre or soft cotton cloth.
- Dark floors
Cliff sensors can see dark surfaces as drop-offs. Block dark carpet off with a Virtual Wall, or a Keep Out Zone on robots that support it.
- Rugs near stairs
Keep rugs flush with stair edges. iRobot counts a drop of 3.5 in (90 mm) or more as a cliff.
- 600 to 900 series: watch the side brush
If it stopped in the middle of the floor, restart it and watch whether the side brush spins. If it doesn't, take it off and clean out the debris.
When to call an engineer
If the error continues after cleaning the sensors, contact iRobot Customer Care.
Good to know
- The e series says: "Drop off detected. Move to a new area, then press Clean." The 500 series plays a two-tone sound followed by six beeps.
