What to check, in order
- Move it to a flat spot
Lift Roomba off the floor, put it in the middle of the room and press CLEAN to restart.
- Clear the wheel wells
Push the wheels up and down several times and shake out any loose debris trapped in the wheel wells.
- Spin both wheels by hand
Turn them briskly. They should turn freely, and each should have the same amount of resistance.
- Block off the problem spot
If it keeps happening in one place, use a Virtual Wall to keep Roomba out of it.
When to call an engineer
If the error keeps coming back on a flat floor after cleaning the wheels, a wheel part may need replacing. iRobot points you to its parts store or an authorised retailer, or to Customer Care if the robot is under warranty.

- What Roomba says depends on the series. 600 series: "Move Roomba to a new location, then press CLEAN to restart." j series: "Uneven ground. Place on a flat surface, and then press the button."
- On the j series the right wheel has its own code, Error 3.
