What it means

LG Canada's chart says 'Indoor unit inlet pipe thermistor has disconnected or has shorted out.' LG's US room air conditioner page pairs CH02 with E1 and calls it an auto-stop protection.

What to check, in order

  1. Reset the power

Unplug the unit or switch off its breaker and wait before switching it back on. LG's general guide says about 5 minutes. Its page for portable and window units says 2 minutes is enough for the power to discharge.

  2. Stop using it if it returns

If CH02 comes back after a reset, LG says to stop using the unit and request service.

When to call an engineer

LG lists a faulty or loose pipe sensor, a main circuit board error or a temporary electrical problem as possible causes. A technician needs to check the sensor and its wiring.

A repair visit will usually check the sensor's reading and its wiring.

Before you book
  • Note the model and serial number. They're on a label on the side of the indoor unit, and on the outdoor unit.
  • Write down the exact code, and what the appliance was doing when it appeared.
  • Check whether it's still under warranty. If it is, the repair may cost you nothing.
