Worcester Bosch EA 227 error code

What it means

On Greenstar i and Si boilers the display shows EA with a three-digit number under it, and Worcester's manuals use EA 227 as their example. On the Greenstar CDi Classic you see EA on its own.

What to check, in order

1. Check you have gas

   Do your gas cooker or hob work? If you have a prepayment meter, check the credit hasn't run out. If there's no gas, contact your gas supplier.

2. Check the condensate pipe

   In freezing weather, look at the pipe that carries water from the boiler to a drain outside. Ice in it will stop the boiler.

3. Thaw it gently

   Hold a hot water bottle, a microwaveable heat pack or a cloth soaked in hot water against the frozen part, or pour hot water (not boiling) over it. Only do this if the pipe is at ground level and easy to reach, never at height.

4. Look at the flue outlet

   If it's safe to do so, check from outside that the flue outlet isn't blocked or damaged.

5. Reset the boiler

   Greenstar CDi Classic: hold the reset button for 3 seconds. After thawing a pipe, hold it for 5 seconds and wait two to three minutes for the boiler to restart. Greenstar i and Si: press the reset button briefly once.

Good to know

• If you thaw the pipe, watch that the water you poured doesn't freeze on the path and become a slip hazard.
